Bury Juice is a free weekly email about what’s on in Bury St Edmunds, run by Jacob. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. Last updated 9 October 2026.

Who we are

Bury Juice is responsible for your information (the “data controller”). Questions about it, or any of the requests below, go to hello@theburyjuice.com.

What we collect

  • Your email address, when you subscribe, so we can send you the newsletter.
  • Anything you choose to tell us after signing up: what you’re into, where in or around Bury you live, your age band, whether there are children at home, how you found us, and any note you leave. It’s all optional.
  • Whether an email was opened and which links were clicked. It tells us which parts of the newsletter people find useful, and it’s how we report results to the businesses who advertise.
  • If you book an ad or list an event: your name, business, contact details and the listing itself. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see your card details.
  • Your vote, if you answer a poll in the newsletter.

The website doesn’t use advertising or tracking cookies. If something goes wrong on a page, a short error report is sent to us so we can fix it.

Why we use it

  • To send you the newsletter, because you asked us to (your consent).
  • To pick what goes in it and to show advertisers how their ads did, in totals, never as a list of who clicked (our legitimate interest in running a useful, free newsletter).
  • To run ad and event bookings you’ve paid for (to carry out our agreement with you).

We never sell your information or give your email address to advertisers.

Who else handles it

A few services do the heavy lifting for us, and only use your information to do that job:

  • Resend, which sends the emails
  • Supabase, where the subscriber list is stored
  • Vercel, which hosts the website
  • Stripe, for payments
  • Sentry, for error reports
  • Anthropic, if a sponsor uses the “help me write it” button when booking an ad

Some of these are based outside the UK. Where they are, your information is protected by the safeguards UK data protection law requires.

How long we keep it

For as long as you’re subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we keep your email address on a “do not send” list so you aren’t emailed again by mistake, and delete the rest. Booking records are kept for six years for tax purposes.

Your rights

You can unsubscribe at any time with the link at the bottom of every email. You can also ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it: email hello@theburyjuice.com and we’ll reply within a month. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
